Happy New Year…Welcome 2010!!!

HAPPY 2010 TO ALL OF YOU!!!
2009 has been a great year, but I’m definitely ready for 2010! The first day of the year has already been pretty fun so far even though I’ve just been lounging around! I’m planning on doing just this for the rest of the day…no workout planned for today. Probably a good idea because I’m super sore from yesterday’s Body Pump anyway!
I hope you had a great NYE celebration! Here’s my recap:
I got out of work an hour earlier than usual so my roommate and I went shopping for our NYE outfits.
We ended up just going to Forever 21 in Watertown for a fun, but affordable, outfit.
As soon as we got home, I reheated some of my leftovers from last night for a quick dinner — I didn’t take a picture because you guys have seen it a few times on this blog already and I didn’t want to bore you with the same pictures! After scarfing my dinner down, I immediately got ready because Matt and his friends were coming over to pre-party before we headed out to the main event of the night.
I had TONS of leftover beer (mainly Harpoon winter/holiday beers) which I bought for my gingerbread house party, so I served those to Matt and his friends.

After pre-partying for about an hour or so, we decided to head out and hopped on the T. We had to take it all the way to Park Street for the party. Yay for saving money by not taking a cab!
T ride photos:

Boston was happening last night! There were tons of people out for Boston’s First Night. There were also many visitors, probably because of the Winter Classic hockey game that’s going on in Fenway Park right now! By the way, this game is soooo cool, but more on that later!
Here’s what the Boston Common looked like right outside the Park Street T stop…so festive!

Loved seeing the crazy hats people were wearing.

After getting lost for about 10 minutes, we finally found Matt’s friend’s apartment! And of course, as soon as we get there, Matt immediately signed us up to play some Beer Pong! I’m not a big drinker in general (because I have such low tolerance that it’s quite ridiculous…and I just don’t like feeling hung over
), but I do like playing beer pong! Matt ends up drinking most of the beer!
Matt and I get pretty competitive! We ended up de-throning the reigning champs and went on to beat two teams, so it was a good night for us!
Here’s a shot of the beer pong duo! My roommate, Valerie, took this picture, apparently in “Jersey Shore” fashion. Not really sure what that means actually. Haha!

And here is one of Valerie and me.

More of Matt and me. This is one of his favorite looks…the pensive pose.

Overall, it was a fun night! I think I had a total of umm, maybe 2 beers? Haha…I am actually glad that I didn’t drink that much and still had fun! It was just nice to be with friends!
At about 12:40, we decided to hop into a cab to get back to our neighborhood. The plan was to head to a bar, but Matt and I ended up going home. We just didn’t want to stand around in the cold, so we decided to make late-night snacks at my apartment instead. When we got home, it seemed like my roommate, Karlene, and her boyfriend had the same idea.
Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take pictures of the food we ate. But to be honest, it’s probably for the better.
It was quite embarrassing how much food we managed to eat last night!
My stomach felt like a bottomless pit! It was a great way to start the new year though: eating!
We don’t have much planned for today…we just want to relax and watch some exciting games on TV. Right now, we are watching the Winter Classic hockey game between the Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers. This is really cool — it’s being played at Fenway Park where they started building the rink at the beginning of December. Needless to say, everyone in Boston has been really excited about this game! I have to say, I’m pretty psyched and I’m not even from Boston!

I’m also slowly enjoying a Sam Adams Winter Lager. Good thing it’s cold outside! Otherwise, my beer would have been warm by now because I’m drinking it so slowly!

With my beer, I also enjoyed half of a chicken parm sub from a nearby pizza/sub shop. Matt’s roommate also made some scallops wrapped in bacon — look at these babies! Love her winter-themed plate too!

The chicken parm was delicious! On the side, I had some of the scallops and chips + dip. My plate looks misleading because it’s pretty bare, but I actually got a few more helpings of chips + dip later on.

Mid-bite photo:

While we ate, we watched a stealth bomber fly over Fenway Park after the singing of the national anthem. Just as we were looking out the windows to see if we could catch a glimpse of it from where we are, it flew right over Matt’s house!!! It was soooo cool!!! Of course, I had my camera nearby and caught a picture of it! It’s really small because it was flying by so fast and I didn’t want to miss it…can you find it?!

Here’s a zoomed-in version. Pretty cool, right?!

It was so cool to see it right after we saw it flying over Fenway on TV!!!
Later, we also plan to watch the Rose Bowl between the Oregon and Ohio State. Of course, I’m rooting for Oregon — let’s go PAC-10!!! My team had a tough season, so I am just rooting for fellow Pac-10 teams!
I’m off to relax and pay more attention to the Winter Classic. Enjoy your first day of 2010, everyone!
Happy running and good eating!
Patricia
