New Year’s Dinner
8:45 PM Boston time
Hi everyone! Sorry I was MIA all day — was out and about with Matt. More on today later. Here’s a recap of the rest of my first day in 2010.
Matt and I hung out with his roommates all day by the fire and just relaxed while watching sports on TV and playing some games.
We also opened a bottle of champagne to share with everyone.

We didn’t have any champagne flutes so I enjoyed mine in a Sam Adams glass that I got for free when I toured the brewery a long time ago.

We also started a fire…it was really nice and relaxing to just sit by it.

There’s the Rose Bowl in the background. Oregon didn’t win, but it was still a fun game to watch.

Matt’s roommate also cooked up a big Southern feast. One of his roommates is originally from the South and he has a tradition of eating a big Southern feast on New Year’s Day every year. His girlfriend cooked up the entire meal and we all had some. It was delicious!

The feast included pork ribs with black-eyed peas and corn bread…

delicious yams, which had a buttery brown sugar sauce…

and collard greens of course, which were actually quite spicy. I had never tasted collard greens before and I must say I really liked them! I’m definitely going to add them to my shopping list…can’t go wrong with leafy greens, right?

Everything was sooooo sooooo good! I may have had seconds of the yams!
And for dessert, I had more of these delicious minty Bliss chocolates.

They are perfectly balanced between the mint and chocolate tastes. I didn’t even know these existed!
After dinner, we played a game called Salad Bowl. Each person that plays writes down 10 names of people that at least three people in the room must know. They can be people that you know personally or they can be famous people like movie stars, actors, athletes, etc. We even had people’s pets in there! Everyone is divided into two teams.
In Round 1, each person on the team takes turns describing a name they pick out of the bowl while the rest of the team tries to guess that person. In Round 2, you are only allowed to use 3 words to describe that person. And finally, in Round 3, you have to act out that person without saying anything.
You can imagine that this game can get pretty funny, especially if there’s some drinking involved! It was really fun and kept us entertained for a good portion of the night.
After this game, I worked on my invitations for my fundraising party. I also made a Facebook invitation. I hope you can come if you are in Boston: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=242799998704&ref=mf
Well, hope you guys had a great day as well! My next post is going to be from today’s eats and listing my goals for 2010!
Happy running and good eating!
Patricia
