Raffle

As many of you know, I’m fundraising for the Tufts University School of Nutrition Science and Policy as a team member of the President’s Marathon Challenge. So far, I have raised around $1300 of my $2500 goal, thanks to the generosity of my family and friends. I still have a little bit to go so I’ve decided to hold this fun raffle! Ready for the “rules?” :)

3 Simple Guidelines:
1. Donate $10 on my President’s Marathon Challenge RUNNER’S WEBSITE and you will get ONE (1) Raffle Ticket

2. OR…donate $25 and you will get THREE (3) Raffle Tickets

3. Refer a friend to my raffle and you get ONE (1) EXTRA Raffle Ticket

How can you refer a friend? Direct them to the web address http://www.runfoodierun.com/raffle so that they can enter the raffle. They should then email me at runfoodierun@gmail.com to tell me who referred them. As soon as I get the email, I will enter one (1) extra raffle ticket for you! :)

Each raffle ticket will be entered in an Excel file so that each person is allotted a number for each eligible donation. This raffle will run from March 5, 2010 to April 5, 2010. All winners will be randomly drawn using a random number generator such as this website: http://www.random.org/. All questions should be directed to runfoodierun@gmail.com.

Why should you support my cause?
You might ask why I’m so passionate about this cause — and here are some reasons why I’ve chosen to dedicate my time to raising money for research in nutrition and adolescent obesity. I hope you will consider them and help me raise money for this great cause!

* I believe that proper nutrition is key to preventing many diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. Consider some of the recent figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the CDC’s National Surveillance Data, the number of people afflicted with diabetes has tripled from 1980 through 2006, from 5.6 million to 16.8 million, which coincides with the upward trend in obesity.

* There is an upward trend in obesity for children and adolescents (see this report) since several studies were performed during selected years starting in 1963 until the present. Thus, we need to pay more attention to hopefully stopping this upward trend.

* I also believe that we can save money in the long run by focusing on disease prevention and proper nutrition and fitness. By promoting a healthier society, we can hopefully generate less medical bills!

Thank you for reading and I really hope you will consider helping me with my cause!

Happy running & good eating!
Patricia :)
